Faith yields favour
Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not (yet) see. It is seeing things that are not as though they were. This is of course, far easier said than done!
Winning the good fight of faith is not for the faint-hearted. It requires an all-out gloves-off battle that is most-often waged against us via surprise ambush attacks when we feel the least equipped to fight back... in the dark hours before dawn, in our driest spells and deepest valleys. It is a battle that we must not shrink back from – for it is a battle for our very destinies. It is faith that precedes favour - never the other way around. Be encouraged then that whatever battle you may be facing - if you face it with faith - there will be greater favour in your life up ahead.
There are no substitutes for hard work and humility
Digging wells is an act of faith – believing that underneath this dry, arid ground, if we dig deep enough, we will find life-giving provisions. And yet faith with out works is as dry and lifeless as a the drought-stricken dessert. Digging wells is an act of faith – yes. But it also demands active work and a level of humility that acknowledges that no one is going to dig for you. Thankfully, having faith and working hard are not mutually exclusive qualities. In my experience, they go hand in hand.
The darkest hours are just before the dawn
Sometimes, the hardest rock sits just atop vast aquifers. I wonder how many times we give up just before the breakthrough. Instead of thinking how far you still have to go, look back, look up – and see just how far you’ve come already. Then keep going. Keep trusting that the best is yet to come. Feep the faith. And keep digging.
